January 2013: More news from one of Pandeli Lazaridi’s Students: Jaime Korkos

A talented mezzo soprano, Jaime was accepted into the New England Conservatory, where she finished her studies and is now a paid artist in residence in their Artist Diploma program. Early in 2012, Jaime sang in the 4th and 5th movements of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, with full orchestra at Jordan Hall. You can see videos of her performances with the New England Conservatory Philharmonia in more recent months by going to YouTube and searching for “Jaime Korkos”. Hear her sing in pieces by Christoph Willibald Gluck: “Vieni Appaga Il Tuo Consorte,” “Che Faro Senza Euridice,” and “Che Puro Ciel.” She also appears in an interview with Stephen Lord, Artistic Advisor of NEC’s opera studies program, where they talk about Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice and share some close-up rehearsal performances.

The Lazarideus Small Opera and Voice Academy started as the Small Opera of San Diego. It is sponsored by the nonprofit Lazarideus Foundation and had the following goals:

  1. Bring more opera to San Diego County and the whole USA.
  2. Give talented new singers the opportunity to perform different roles, such as in talent showcases.
  3. Invite talent agents from all agencies internationally to hear the singers.
  4. Create a classical singer’s market.
  5. Develop career opportunities for singers.
